Sports anchor Archana Vijaya, who hosted discussions during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 and added glamour to the cash-rich league, got trolled for her tweet after Star India bettered Sony’s bid to buy IPL media rights. Vijaya tweeted, “WOW ! Just came on to Twitter and learnt of @StarSportsIndia bagging the #IPLrights . Congratulations ! Upwards and onwards!”. But Twitterati decided to mock Vijaya for her tweet and one tweet even read, “Jobless queen”. People assumed that Vijaya was unlikely to host a show during IPL 11.
Out of the 24 participants of the media right auction, Star India turned out to be the highest bidder and bagged the broadcasting rights along with the digital rights giving a Rs 16,347.50 crore deal.
The race boiled down to Star India and Sony for the TV broadcast rights, they were the only bidders who had the necessary documents to provide eligible bids, whereas for the digital rights, Reliance Jio, Facebook, Times Internet and Airtel Presence was in the fray.
