It was Ishan Porel who took India to victory despite suffering an injury right at the beginning of the tournament. It was his four wickets that rattled the Pakistan top order in the semi-final clash. In the Finals as well, he picked up two crucial wickets to aid to India’s win. It certainly takes a lot of courage and determination to deliver such performances, despite being unpicked in the IPL 2018 Auctions. He did not lose heart and the team performance he put forward will be remembered in the times to come.

In the tournament opener against Australia, he featured in just five overs. Ishan had to pull out of the match as he ruptured his out-step tissue on his left leg
Speaking of his resurgence, coach Bibhash Das revealed that Ishan hasn’t recovered fully.
He said,
“He’s not fully recovered, and bowled with pain on his foot. Such a kind of injury would take a minimum three weeks to recover. It’s not actually an ankle injury. He has a tear on his out step of the left leg. He bowled with a heavily taped leg with insole in his shoe, so that he does not aggravate his injury. It’s only because of the advanced treatment in New Zealand that he could play in the three knockout matches.”
On Porel’s next goal, his coach said,
“The biggest challenge for him, and me, is to keep him physically fit so that he could bowl with full strength. We will do our best. Porel should target the World Cup 2019 now. He was consistently clocking 138kph. His forte has been speed and bounce. He’s not a swing bowler per se, but he has a natural ability to generate off the seam movement and more bounce,”

It’s been a fairytale comeback for Ishan after suffering the injury. With the way he bowled, he single-handedly won the match for India against Pakistan in the semi-final, which is highly commendable. We hope he has a great future as he retires from U-19 on a high.
