Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah extended his support to the Dangal girl who played the role of young Geeta Phogat in the blockbuster movie, Dangal, Zaira Wasim by saying that she should not be made to apologise just for meeting the state’s Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
“A 16-year-old shouldn’t be forced to apologise & that too allegedly for meeting Mehbooba Mufti. What are we coming to!” Omar Tweeted.
Omar Abdullah who has been extremely vocal about his displeasure with the Mehbooba Mufti government slammed the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister saying that the “Mehbooba Mufti was using other people’s success to cover up her own failures.” He further urged the government to let the young achievers enjoy their succes and not “hijack” it.
I’ve a problem with @MehboobaMufti trying to userp other peoples success to cover up her own failures but why punish/troll people she meets?

These people succeed IN SPITE of the Govt not because of it so it’s best to let them enjoy their success instead of trying to hijack it.

Zaira Wasim found herself embroiled in a controversy after she recently met Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti. Zaira Wasim who issued an apology after receiving threats post her meeting with the J&K CM said that she had no idea why the matter had become such a big issue while adding that she had apologised only because she did not want hurt anyone’s feelings.
“Again and again I am telling people that I have not been forced into anything by anyone. This was post was not meant against anyone, just wanted to make sure that people were not hurt by what I was doing. From media to everyone else, please don’t blow this out of proportion. Neither was I forced nor am I against anyone. Hopefully, this post just stops this once and for all,” she said in a statement.
However, she deleted the apology issued soon after.
The young girl hailing from Kashmir was trolled mercilessly and even received death threats after she met Mehbooba Mufti. However, it couldn’t be immediately verified if she received any threat in the militancy-hit region. Even, the Commonwealth games Gold medalist wrestler Geeta Phogat herself backed Zaira and stated that there was no need to seek an apology and she need not be scared.
