Tamil Nadu all-rounder Vijay Shankar is set to replace Bhuvneshwar Kumar in Team India squad for the second Test at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur. Vijay has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit. He rose to fame in Indian Premier League (2017) playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He scored 101 runs in four matches he played in the season including a fifty. Though his bowling was not tested as skipper David Warner did not give him an over to bowl to.
Bhuvneshwar is set to get married on November 23 and that’s the reason why he will not be featuring in the second Test. Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan too has been released from the Indian Test squad citing personal reasons.
Here’s what the 26-year-old had to say about his surprise call-up as quoted by PTI.
I am really excited (about the call-up). It has been along-time dream of mine to be part of the Indian team. Now it has come true. My hard work has paid off. I was not expecting it but it feels great. I am looking forward to being part of the Indian dressing room for the first time. Being part of the India ‘A’ team has helped me grow as an all-rounder. I have matured as a player and learnt to perform under different situations.
