It happened so fast. The journey from 9,000 to 10,000 ODI runs was completed in just 11 innings by Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Arguably, the most consistent batsman of all time became the fastest to 10,000 ODI runs and that too with a stark difference to the ones before him. Kohli is 54 innings quicker than his idol Sachin Tendulkar to the landmark.
The 29-year-old broke the 17-year-old record of Tendulkar, surpassing legends on the list including the non-striker, MS Dhoni. He is not just fastest in terms of innings (205) but also the years taken. Kohli took 10 years and 67 days compared to Rahul Dravid who took 10 years and 317 days. Also, he took the least number of balls (10,813) surpassing former Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya.
Even before reaching the milestone, Kohli became the top trend on Twitter with ex-cricketers congratulating him for achieving the feat:
And the insanity continues with an undying intensity. Congratulations #KingKohli on 10,000 ODI runs and 37th century. The hunger, consistency and intensity is simply incredible pic.twitter.com/DGoP1GlZ01

In the cricket dictionary maybe
Heard that Oxford Dictionary is considering replacing ‘Consistency’ with ‘Kohli’. Makes a lot of sense #IndvWI #37

Switch on the TV, @imVkohli is batting on 144 having crossed the collosal 10k run mark. Double it up now as they would be calling for it in the dressing room. #battingartist #INDvWIN

Kohli was on a roll as he became the fastest to complete 1,000 ODI runs in a calendar year (11 innings). He even became the fastest to 37th ODI century going past Tendulkar again. With every century he scores, he will break records.
With unbeaten 157 against West Indies, his average has reached 59.62. And if you look at his average in 2018, it’s a mind-boggling 149.42.
At the pace Kohli is going, he will be a threat to 12 batsmen who have scored more runs than him in ODIs. However, with World Cup 2019, the records will be the least of his concern.
