Here on, Virat Kohli’s innings do not need glorifying. Kohli has developed a habit of going out and scoring centuries. He has reached a point of his career where with every innings, he breaks one record or another. In the recently-concluded six-match ODI series against South Africa, the Indian skipper scored 558 runs in 7 ODIs, including three centuries and one half-century at an average of 186.
That has been the dominance of Kohli in the ODI series; he has clearly proved himself to be the best limited overs batsman in the world at the moment, and probably one of the greatest batsmen of all time.
Kohli scored an unbeaten 129 in the 6th ODI against SA to guide his team to an easy 8-wicket victory. and a series win of epic proportions, 5-1, a record in itself. Moving ahead, let’s take a look at the number of records Kohli broke with his 35th ODI century:
1. Kohli pipped Australian batsman George Bailey’s tally of 478 runs against India in a bilateral ODI series as a captain in 2013/14. Now, Kohli holds the record for most runs as a captain in a bilateral ODI series.
2. Also, he has the most number of runs by a batsman in a bilateral ODI series. The previous record was held by Rohit Sharma who scored 491 runs against Australia in a 6-match ODI series in 2013-14.
3. Kohli’s batting average of 186 is the highest by any batsman in an ODI series (above 450 runs). He took over former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen’s average of 151.33 in seven-match ODI series in 2004/05 against South Africa.

4. As far as ODI career batting average is concerned Kohli is only behind former Netherlands player Ryan ten Doeschate, who has a batting average of 67. However, Kohli’s career batting average is 58.10, which is the highest among batsmen who have played 50 ODIs or more.

5. Kohli also equalled AB de Villiers’ record of most centuries as a captain in a bilateral ODI series. De Villiers scored three centuries against Pakistan during five-match ODI series at home in 2012/13. However, Kohli has the most number of centuries by a touring captain in a bilateral ODI series.
