Indian captain Virat Kohli set five records during his unbeaten 160 runs knock against South Africa during the third One-Day International (ODI) in Cape Town on February 7.

Kohli, who came to bat at Number 3 following early dismissal of opener Rohit Sharma (0), slammed his 34th ODI ton to help India post a competitive total of 303/6 in their allotted 50 overs, which hosts failed to achieve while chasing and were bowled out for just 179 runs in 40 overs.

South Africans lost the battle by a huge 124-run margin to hand Team India 3-0 lead in the six-match series.

Earlier, put into bat, Kohli played the captain’s knock to guide his team to post a match-winning total.

The Delhi batsman remained unbeaten at 160 runs, smashing 12 boundaries and two sixes over the course of the 159 balls he faced.

During his course to reach the unbeaten 160, Kohli broke several records including that of former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly and former Australian captain Ricky Ponting. Here’s the full list of records:

Virat Kohli became has most hundreds as the Indian ODI captain to his name. He broke Sourav Ganguly’s record, who has 11 centuries in 142 innings. Kohli now has 12 centuries as skipper but in only 43 innings.
Kohli’s unbeaten 160 off 159 balls is the highest individual score by an Indian batsman against South Africa in South Africa. He went past Sourav Ganguly’s 127 at Johannesburg in 2001.
160 not out off 159 balls was also Kohli’s second-highest ODI score after 183 against Pakistan in 2012.
Kohli on February 7 also became the first Indian batsman to score a hundred against South Africa at Newlands, Cape Town.
Kohli, with 318 runs in this series so far, now also has the most runs for a visiting batsman in a bilateral ODI series against South Africa in South Africa. He went past Australian Ricky Ponting’s 283 runs in 2001-02.

Team India will next face South Africans on February 10 at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. Virat Kohli & Co need just one more win to seal the series.
