It does not happen every time that a fielder drops a catch and the skipper ends up laughing because of it rather than scolding or giving the fielder a stare. But, it happened during the India vs Bangladesh warm-up game as Dhoni made a mess of a simple catch as Taskin Ahmed in an attempt to slog Hardik Pandya’s delivery in the 23rd over. The ball took a thick edge and went straight up in the air towards square of the wicket. Dhoni completely misjudged the trajectory of the ball and the ball ended up on the ground instead of Dhoni’s usually safe hands.
But, Kohli took it sportingly as Dhoni looked a bit funny dropping the catch. The skipper his hands at the back of his head seeing Dhoni’s attempt. He and Dhoni shared a few moments of laughter. Dhoni who usually keeps the wickets was seen without wicketkeeping gloves as Dinesh Karthik was doing his job. Dhoni had a role-reversal not only on the wicketkeeping front but other aspects of the game as well. Dhoni did not come to bat against Bangladesh as he and Kohli gave others a chance to get used to the English conditions before their first ICC Champions Trophy 2017 game against Pakistan. Despite Kohli and Dhoni not coming out to bat, India posted a mammoth total of 324 fo 7 which turned out to be too good for Bangladesh who got bundled out for a mere 84 with 157 balls to spare. India will go into the India vs Pakistan clash on June 4 with confidence after thrashing Bangladesh by 240 runs.
