In a rare moment in cricket, Indian bowler Umesh Yadav stunned the Australian batsman with his fast delivery during the second day of the third Test match in Ranchi on March 17. Yadav, known for his reverse swing, opened the bowling for the hosts when the Australian overnight batsman Glenn Maxwell was on strike.
To start the day, a charged-up Yadav bowled in a 140kmph delivery that broke Maxwell’s bat right below the sponsor’s sticker. Soon, after the incident, both the players smiled at each other and Yadav gestured like a bodybuilder to showcase its strength.
Later, Maxwell showed his class and went on to score his maiden test century. With this feat, Maxwell became the second Australian cricketer after Shane Watson to score a century in all three formats of the international game. Maxwell reached the 100-run mark with a fierce cut that flew through the slips for his ninth boundary.
But his stay at the middle ended soon. He was batting at 104 when he edged Jadeja’s delivery to wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha. During his knock, Maxwell also hit two sixes and faced 185 balls in his four-hour vigil, the longest he has spent on the crease in an international game.
