On July 15, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami’s house at Katju Nagar, Kolkata, was attacked by 3 youngsters who live in the near by area. The entire scene started after the Shami’s driver hit the car with a bike while the Indian cricketer was returning home with his family. The car driver and bike owner got involved into a heated conversation and Shami had to intervene in order to calm down the matter.

Later, the bike owner along with three of his friends returned to Shami’s residence to seek revenge. The gatekeeper stopped them at the gate and got badly beaten up. The three youths tried to enter Shami’s home but they failed and returned. Later, a complaint was lodged with the Jadavpur police station and the police took immediate action on the matter.

Days after this incident, Mohammed Shami’s wife opened up about the incident happened on Saturday night. According to a Times of India report, she said,”On Saturday when we reached home, we found three cars already parked in front of our house. We still managed to leave some space for other vehicles to pass. But the man who was on the bike started arguing. The matter looked to have ended there itself but later they tried to enter into our house later. They kept kicking on our door for 10 minutes. I am still living in fear and shock.”

“Ever since we came here, we have faced one problem or the other. Though nothing major has happened so far, we do feel insecure,” said Shami’s wife, Hasin Jahan.

The Jadhavpur police identified all the three young men after going through the CCTV camera installed outside Shami’s house. All the three accused have been nabbed and were also charged for beating up the caretaker and misbehaving with him.

Mohammed is currently in Sri Lanka with the Indian Test squad to play a 3-match series. The first game is scheduled to be played on July 26 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Balagolla.
