Soft tennis player Muskan Yadav made an emotional appeal on social media when she was denied funding to participate in Soft Tennis World Championships despite being selected in the Indian contingent.
Hailing from a low-income family in Govindpur, Yadav was asked to pay Rs 1.20 lakh to arrange for accommodation, visa and food.
“I have won gold medals in many national tournaments. In fact, I got selected to go to South Korea last year where I represented India. Our team came fourth out of 62 teams from all over the world, which is a major feat.”
Her mother had to sell her jewellery so that Yadav could travel to South Korea for Junior Soft Tennis Championship where she came 4th.
To help Yadav, the students of Allahabad University had been trying to gather funds after the University reportedly refused to fund her trip. Her trip has apparently been funded by a former MLC.
