Scoring 10,000 ODI runs is a huge deal, that too when you are the first person to to do it by a big margin. Virat Kohli’s record or his efforts to reach the feat deserves to be celebrated. However, let us pose a simple question? Are you aware that Mithali Raj just hit a record-breaking century in a T20 match between India A and Australia A.
With Woman’s World T20 coming up, Mithali pounced on the opportunity of game time to sharpen her skills. She scored her career’s second T20 century and the highest T20 score by any Indian woman cricketer.
The 35-year-old surpassed Smriti Mandhana’s score of 102 in English T20 league to achieve the feat. She also became the only Indian woman cricketer to hit two centuries in T20 cricket. Her previous best was 100 while playing for Railways in domestic T20 tournament.
Opener Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Dayalan Hemalatha and Anuja Patil got out scoring in single digits.
Despite the batting collapse, Mithali took on the bowlers. She shared a 85-run partnership with Harmanpreet Kaur (57 runs from 32 balls) to take her team to a daunting total of 185 for 5 in the first innings. She remained unbeaten for 105 off just 61 deliveries including 18 fours and 1 six.

The disparity in the coverage of men and women cricket was once again on display. Deodhar Trophy was telecast, but all we had for India A vs Australia A match was the scorecard. It’s a shame that there is no footage of Mithali’s flamboyant T20 century, a rare thing in women cricket.
