Under-20 World champion quarter-miler Hima Das won the women’s 200m gold in the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland. Her first competitive race of the year, Das clocked only 0.55 seconds over her personal best despite struggling with a back problem.
At the Athletics Asian Championships, Das suffered a back spasm during the 400m heat race. The Assamese runner had spoken about her back problem from time to time. Hima had to drop out midway through her 400m heats and she was later ruled out of the women’s 4x400m relay and mixed 4x400m relay races. She soon returned on the track and was named in India women’s 4x400m relay team for World Relays.
V K Vismaya finished third just 10 seconds behind Das and clocked a personal best of 23.75 seconds. Asian champion Tajinder Pal Singh Toor won the men’s bronze in shot put. 400m national record holder Muhammed Anas was third in the men’s 200m race while K S Jeevan won men’s 400m bronze.
