Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani on Friday unveiled the country’s first 4G LTE-enabled feature phone– Jio Phone at the company’s 40th Annual General Meeting (AGM). Dubbed as “India ka smartphone”, Jio Phone was launched with the aim to bridge the digital divide between smartphone users and feature phone users and encourage 2G users to directly migrate to 4G service.
Talking about the specification, Jio Phone features 2.4-inch QVGA display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 205 processor. The phone, that is priced at Rs 0, supports 22 Indian languages, which means that users can use the regional languages to interact with the phone in the form of voice commands. Interestingly, the phone comes with a host pre-loaded apps including Jio Music, Jio TV, Jio Cinema and Mann ki Baat app among others.
Among other things, the company also announced that the Jio Phone will offer unlimited voice calls and data to all its users. However, there are a few things that the company didn’t announce.
Here are three things that you cannot do on Jio Phone:
1) WhatsApp: As mentioned earlier, Jio Phone comes with a host of pre-loaded apps. However, this does not include WhatsApp at the moment. Though there’s a possibility that the company could add WhatsApp support later this year (just like support for NFC), on the flip side Jio could also use the device to promote its chatting app Jio Chat.

2) Wi-Fi: Jio Phone does not feature support for Wi-Fi or hotspot. Reports suggest that the feature will be unlocked using software updates that will be released later this year.

3) Unlimited Data: One of the most lucrative features of Jio Phone is its unlimited data. But there’s a catch. According to the reports, the Rs 153 pack comes with a daily data limit of 500 MB. Users will still be able to use the Internet once this limit has been exhausted but at a reduced speed.
