From wearing short clothes to being too outspoken, Indian women get trolled for pretty much everything. This year, women decided they’re done with the crap, and gave it back to all the trolls who slut-shamed them for wearing what they want, who body shamed them for not being ‘slim’ enough and those who just wanted them to ‘simmer’ down because they’re ‘just a bunch of women’.
As the year ends, here’s a look at 7 badass women who taught their trolls a lesson:
RJ Malishka
With her viral ‘Sonu’ video, Malishka single-handedly reminded Mumbai’s municipal corporation that they are accountable for their actions (or rather not taking any action at all) regarding the potholes on the city’s roads. While the BMC tried to file a report against her, she didn’t give two hoots and stood up for what’s right.
Faye D’Souza
During the whole ‘Fatima Sana wore a Bikini during Ramadan’ debate, a Maulana asked Faye to show up at her workplace in her underwear since she wants to be equal to men (much logic such wow), the news anchor gave it back and how!
She reminded the Maulana (and all the other trolls) that she isn’t not afraid of him and neither are all the other women. Way to go, Faye!
The entire Lipstick Under My Burkha cast
The fact that a movie about all women living in the shadow of tyranny was called ‘too lady oriented’ is as ironic at it gets. Ratna Pathak Shah, Plabita Borthakur, Konkona Sensharma and Aahana Kumra showed Bollywood and all their sexist trolls that there is no such thing as ‘too lady oriented’. And who can forget the powerful #LipstickUnderMyBurkha campaign these ladies started to shun sexism once and for all!
Women in Cinema Collective
Parvathy Menon, Manju Warrier, Bhavana and others formed a women’s collective in the Malayalam film industry. Started to rattle patriarchy and ‘bad portrayal of women’ by the Malayalam film industry, this group after an incident of sexual assault was reported by a Malayalam actor. Kudos to you women for having the guts to speak out!
Deepika Padukone
When Deepika was slut shamed for wearing a ‘revealing’ outfit, she slapped the trolls back by posting another picture in the same outfit. Outspoken Deepika let her actions do the talking this time to teach her trolls a lesson.
Priyanka Chopra
When Priyanka was trolled for wearing a dress while meeting the PM, she decided to shut the trolls up in style. Shortly after the uproar, she posted a picture with her mom captioned ‘Legs for days’. When you troll Priyanka Chopra, she trolls you right back!
Mithali Raj
When people tried trolling her for sweaty armpits (seriously?) Mithali gave a befitting response to shut them up!

In short, 2017 was the year women finally said no to sexism, body shaming and patriarchy. Take a bow, ladies!
