Apart from impressing the audience with their acting prowess, Bollywood actresses Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor and Aditi Rao Hydari have also proved that they are good singers. This isn’t an appreciation post about these Bollywood actresses on how they are so talented nor is it about how their singing has hurt the livelihood of the female playback singers because our playback singers still have enough work on their hands. But it is about how one is better than the other and how each and every one has charmed their way to millions of hearts.
Bollywood celebrities making their foray into singing is nothing new. We all remember Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan singing Mere Angne Mein (Laawaris) and Rang Barse (Silsila), Sridevi’s O Meri Chandni (Chandni), Aamir Khan’s Ae Kya Bolti Tu (Ghulam) and Bum Bum Bole (Taare Zameen Par), Shah Rukh Khan’s Apun Bola (Josh) and the more forgettable ones like Madhuri Dixit in Kahe Ched Ched Mujhe (Devdas) and Juhi Chawla’s Chalo Jaane Do (Bhoothnath) which she sang with Amitabh Bachchan. And let’s not disappoint Salman Khan fans here because, he has also ‘sung’ songs in his movies, Bodyguard and Kick.
In recent times, it is the actresses in Bollywood who are taking over the mic and showcasing their musical talent.
Priyanka Chopra:
But among the latest crop of actresses, Priyanka Chopra is one of the most popular actor-cum-singer, who has already released her singles beginning with In My City (2012) to Exotica (2013) and I Can’t Make You Love Me (2014). Coming to the point, her first single In My City has garnered over 30 million views but does she really sing well because it seems like her voice has been modulated way too much.

Shraddha Kapoor:
Another actress who is much loved for her voice and her singing skills is Shraddha Kapoor. Shraddha Kapoor has sung for almost most of her movies and her huge fan following speaks volumes that the actress has made a mark with in the hearts of many. Songs like Teri Galliyan (Ek Villain), Bezubaan Phir Se (ABCD 2), Sab Tera (Baaghi) and more recently, Phir Bhi Tumko Chahungi (Half Girlfriend). Shraddha Kapoor is a trained classical singer and even music composer, Ankit Tiwari suggested that Shraddha can take up professional singing. Shraddha Kapoor has a little husky voice which appeals to many.
Alia Bhatt:
Next up is Alia Bhatt, who has sung songs Sooha Saaha with Zebunissa Bangash in Highway, Samjhawan (Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania), Ikk Kudi (Udta Punjab) and more recently, Love You Zindagi and Ae Zindagi Gale Laga Le (Dear Zindagi) and Humsafar (Badrinath Ki Dulhania). Alia Bhatt isn’t a trained singer and hence, striking high notes is visibly difficult. Also, there’s a peculiar nasal tone about her voice, which also seems childlike and goes on to be become shrill at times. Honestly, voice modulation plays a large part in making Alia’s songs a hit, but her efforts and passion are appreciable. Her song Samjhawan from Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania collected 96 million views.
Aditi Rao Hydari:
Last but not the least, is Aditi Rao Hydari who is a well-known name in Hindi and Tamil cinema. The actress whose performances in movies like Ye Saali Zindagi and Murder 3 was much-appreciated hasn’t sung songs in any of the Bollywood flicks. Social media noticed her singing talent when one of her videos, of a Tamil TV show in which she’s singing a popular Bollywood number went viral.

The latest one is even better where the actress is singing one of the most difficult songs of Shreya Ghoshal, Chupke Se from Saathiya and we bet you can’t stop yourself from appreciating her mesmerizing voice. Although she has changed the scale of the song to suit her voice but she has done it brilliantly and that does requires deep understanding of music and of course, talent. Her video has already collected more than 328 k views in a matter of a few days.
