Amala Paul to Deepika Padukone: guide for celebs on how not to hurt sentiments

[Opinion] Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Amala Paul - nobody is safe from slut shaming trolls.

Priyanka Chopra may have made India proud abroad, Deepika Padukone may be one of the most beautiful actresses of Bollywood, Fatima Sana Shaikh may have blown our collective minds with her performance in Dangal, Anusha Dandekar may have been a popular MTV VJ and actress Amala Paul may be an acclaimed name in the South Indian film industry but they all have something in common –they have hurt the sentiments of millions of Indians. How? Simply posting their photographs on their social media accounts.

A few days ago, Priyanka Chopra was trolled for being ‘inappropriately’ dressed and obscenely ‘showed her legs’ when she met the Indian PM Narendra Modi. How could she not know the importance of covering her legs when meeting with her ‘elders’, as Twitter rightfully pointed out. Her Bajirao Mastani co-star Deepika Padukone committed a heinous crime by posting a ‘disgusting’ photograph of hers while she was shooting for international magazine, Maxim. It is truly amazing that not once did they think about our sanskaars before exercising their right to dress the way they want to. Who told these women that just because it’s their body that also implies their rules? No, bro. Your closet hasn’t been approved. Enough already.

Here’s our hit list for actresses who must be asked to STOP immediately before they infect anyone else with their liberal *cue horrifying gasp* views:

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra met PM Narendra Modi in Germany and decided to wear a knee-length dress (haaw-ji), and immediately got severely trolled on social media by the upholders of Bhartiya sanskaars.  After all the drama that unfolded, Priyanka put up a photograph, the very next day showing off her legs and shutting up the trolls.

Uff. No manners.

Legs for days…. #itsthegenes with @madhuchopra nights out in #Berlin #beingbaywatch

Deepika Padukone:

Deepika Padukone is next on the list, because she dared to put up a picture of hers dressed up in a white crop top and a high-waisted hipster. Social media moral policing called her a porn star. Her reply? She posted by posting another image from the same photo-shoot.

Aiyo. Cover up, ya!

Fatima Sana Shaikh

Dangal star, Fatima Sana Shaikh was slut-shamed for posting a photo in a swimsuit. How could she do so during Ramadan? What do you mean by being yourself all the time, Fatima? How terribly self-centred of you.

Anusha Dandekar was also slut-shamed several times on her Instagram photographs in the past.

My body, my choice, my life, my karma… Free yourself from people’s judgement, feel liberated, live with a kind heart & love yourself, or change till you do… For when you truly love yourself, you can truly love someone other than you… Anusha Thankyou @kkundrra for giving me the confidence to post this… Thankyou baby Sash @sashajairam for shooting me like never before. Thankyou @shaazjungphotography for making it postable (new word)… Here goes nothing…

And, the latest target of these self-proclaimed moral policemen of the Indian society is south Indian actress, Amala Paul, who posted a beautiful photograph with an equally beautiful quote on her official Facebook page. From being advised to ‘keep her skin under her clothes and not expose’ to telling her to keep such pictures for her private use and not circulate publicly, there were many who were visibly upset with her decision to post ‘such a photo’.

Although we don’t find anything wrong with any of the photographs and also, we have no business to even do so, we do have one simple question for these so-called moral policemen of our society, ‘What is their interest in such photographs and why can’t they just exercise the ‘freely available option’ of plainly ignoring and not looking at the stuff they don’t like? Where does their Indian culture and its values vanish when they are abusing women on social media and calling them names?

And last but not the least, kudos to all the strong women out there who keep shutting such people and annoying them even more by posting similar photos in response. You go girl!
