Popular US actor and political figure, Kal Penn, who was wholeheartedly and openly against Donald Trump during the recent presidential elections, continues to voice his opinions on social media without mincing his words. And this time the target is the US Vice President, Mike Pence. So when, in one of his tweets he referred to Mike Pence as one of the characters of the Bollyood movie, Kal Ho Naa Ho, the twitterati went crazy (at least those who got the reference). Some of the people obviously did not understand what Kal Penn meant in exact terms but quite correctly drew inferences.
It is no news that Donald Trump administration has been against the LGBTQI rights since they started their campaign and Mike Pence has been a staunch opponent of it, since Barack Obama’s leadership. Kal Penn has always been in support of the cause and a strong advocate of gay rights. And, this is what he had to say about Mike Pence:
Mike Pence reminds me of Kantaben from “Kal Ho Na Ho”
— Kal Penn (@kalpenn) April 5, 2017
He left Twitter really amused and those who spotted it, couldn’t stop themselves from responding to Kal Penn’s epic tweet. In fact, even Kal Ho Naa Ho director, Nikkhil Advani, saw the tweet and this is what he had to say:
Hahahaha… I will always have the bgm playing in my head now when I see him standing next @realDonaldTrump. @karanjohar https://t.co/7DOmnC73CM

For those who are unaware of who Kantaben is, and why Kal Penn likened her to Mike Pence, here’s the explanation. Kantaben was Saif Ali Khan’s homophobic maid servant in Kal Ho Naa Ho. She would pass out each time she saw Saif and Shah Rukh’s characters ‘cosying up’ in the movie. The ones who got the reference and enjoyed the comparison, tweeted back :
@kalpenn @sureshnmenon Akal Ho Na Ho

Those who did not understand the tweet, had this to say:
@kalpenn not even going to pretend I know the character reference, but I imagine he’s a pretty convincing super-villain
— Fuegostein (@AaronFuegostein) April 5, 2017
@kalpenn I don’t even know what that is, but it rolls off the tongue nicely

There were some who felt sorry for those who wouldn’t get the reference and some even adviced them to watch the movie which is available on Netflix:
@kalpenn I truely feel sad for the folks who won’t understand this reference, just awesome
— Wahab Ali (@CrazySecurity) April 5, 2017
@kalpenn No lie, #KalHoNaHo is on Netflix right now! If you have 4 hours to spare to understand the reference, it’s worth it! #ItsTheTimeToDisco
