Ever since the assault on Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Jaipur during the shooting of his magnum opus Padmavati, the authenticity of Chittor’s Rani Padmini’s existence has been extensively debated across all sections of the society. While some historians claim the queen at the centre of disputes was a fictional character, few object otherwise.
Besides being an active Aam Aadmi Party leader, Kumar Vishwas acclaimed poet. His poems are read and appreciated by everyone. He said that the Rajputana history will remain unaffected by any two-hour-long film. Recently he posted a video of him reciting a poem heaping praises on the Rajasthani queen. The poem has been written by Pandit Narendra Mishra, and the video has gone crazily viral. Not only this, Vishwas without naming Bhansali took a jibe saying that people sitting in Mumbai were ill-informed about India’s glorious history. He called upon the viewers to narrated true stories about the patriots.
The poem recalls the incident when Delhi ruler Alauddin Khilji imprisoned Chittor’s king Rawal Ratan Singh. The poem describes the valour of Gora and Badal, two brave Rajput soldiers who were feared by Khilji’s army. The anecdote describes how Rani Padmini along with her lieutenant managed to con the Delhi sultan and freed her husband.
When Alauddin Khilji sent a message for her to appear before him in Delhi, the queen along with Gora and Badal devised a plan. It was decided that Khilji be informed that Rani Padmini along with 700 other women would go to Delhi to meet the sultan. But the 700 palanquins will instead comprise the soldiers who will ensure that the Chittor ruler walks away freely.
The warriors Gora and Badal attained martyrdom as Rawal Ratan Singh managed to escape from the clutches of Alauddin Khilji. To know what actually happened during the Chittor seige, you need to listen to the entire poem.
