Too much leg-show. Why was she sitting cross-legged in front of the Prime Minister? Why was she not wearing an Indian attire in her meeting with the Prime Minister who looked dapper in his bandhgala suit? Does she have no respect for the Prime Minister that she decided to show off so much leg in front of him? It’s our PM’s greatness that he didn’t get distracted. But she should have taken care of this. Does she have no shame? She is now a “firang chaplus” “miss fake accent”, no more the “desi girl” we love…blah blah blah.
That’s exactly how much free time creatures on the social media have. Sit, scrutinise, insult and abuse. Repeat. But this article is not about what the trolls were thinking when they saw Priyanka flashing her legs in front of the revered Prime Minister. This is about what Priyanka Chopra was thinking when she decided to put on that so called inappropriate outfit.
We list out seven things that went through her mind before she decided to zero in on the white, knee-length dress for her meeting with Narendra Modi in Berlin, where the Prime Minister is on an official tour to meet German chancellor Angela Merkel.
Here we go:
Thought 1
Umm, should I wear a sari? Well, the bikini blouse isn’t really ready. And I didn’t get all my saris to LA. Mom help!
Thought 2
Does this dress fit the image of the international star that I am?
Do I look at the top of my fashion game?
Thought 4
Is the fabric good enough for the weather in Berlin? F#@k it. I have a great body, and that’s what matters.
Thought 5
Oh yeah, my legs are shaved. No better time to wear the dress
Thought 6
I look gorgeous in it
Thought 7
Final, I am going with this.
Picture perfect. Isn’t she?
Yeah! Perhaps that’s how all girls choose their dresses and perhaps, that’s how all societies, particularly, great democracies like India should let their women choose their clothes. Who they are meeting, or whether they are representing a certain country or not, doesn’t really matter. As for Priyanka, the girl has done India proud at various platforms — something the trolls are hell-bent on undoing. She doesn’t need to prove her Indianness either by covering up or by wearing a traditional attire. And when did covering up guarantee respect and love for someone? The world has moved beyond when Indian women had to draw their pallu over their head at the sight of tau, chacha, mama, jyeth and their own goddamn husband.
And sometimes less clothes can mean a lot of love and respect. Remember this…
For those who are losing all their chill over the dress, here’s a genius of a tweet to keep you entertained.
I told ya! Develop some sense of humour! You will swim through all crisis (read farmers’ protests hush hush). What’s the big deal about a small dress?
