Game of Thrones S07E05 "Eastwatch": Daenerys might be the one bending the knee

Game of Thrones season 7 episode 5 "Eastwatch" had a lot to offer and here's all that could happen in the two remaining episodes.

Game of Thrones is back after that fiery “Loot Train Attack” in the last episode “The Spoils of War”. Season 7 episode 5 “Eastwatch” is perhaps the season’s weakest episode yet, writing-wise. Even so, between ruining some of the fan favourite characters in an episode where the characters are practically teleporting between Dragonstone and The Wall, “Eastwatch” had a lot of good moments that would (hopefully) turn into better ones in the coming episodes.

But before all that, “SPOILER ALERT”, Jaime and Bronn are alive. Like Game of Thrones was ever really gonna kill them. Back to the real stuff, here it goes:

1. #Daenerys4MVP or nah?

Daenerys started off weak this season (and I don’t mean on the battlefield) but now, she has collected herself and is stronger than ever. After annihilating the Lannister army, she proved herself to be a just ruler, definitely worthy of the Iron Throne. But that’s a pretty obvious and if you know Game of Thrones, they never go where you think they’re going. Basically, she ain’t gonna win.

2. The Lannisters are scared out of their wits

After Dany’s little performance in Westeros, both Jaime and Cersei are finally coming to the realisation that they cannot win against her army. Even Qyburn’s Scorpion failed to bring down Drogon, which was inarguably their best shot at beating Daenerys. But we all know Cersei isn’t going to die ’cause… plot armour! So, now that Cersei plans on thinking more like her father, it seems she’s likely to make an ally out of Daenerys, an ally she’d like to stab in the back when the time comes.

3. Will Varys and Tyrion betray Daenerys?

Even though Daenerys is doing anything a decent player would do at war, Tyrion expects her to exercise restraint. This has caused a shift their dynamic as Tyrion is failing to be the befitting Hand Dany had hoped for him to be. Now, it looks like he’s gonna be plotting behind her back to manipulate her. We had always known Varys to be a snake but Tyrion? The two discussing Dany’s “cruelty” over wine looked like a high-school girls’ gang. Seriously, the both of them are the last two people to be saying anything about the Mother of Dragons burning an army (Ref: Battle of Blackwater).

As Daenerys said, perhaps Tyrion doesn’t want to hurt his people after all.

4. All aboard the Daenerys-Jon ship!

Game of Thrones seems to really be going ahead with Daenerys and Jon’s anticipated “hook-up”. Over the course of the episode, the two share several cosy moments and even times where Daenerys is visibly concerned about Jon, more than she is for anyone on her side. Plus, Drogon seems to be approving of the King in the North (since he has Targaryen blood in his veins and stuff) so, why not?

5. Sansa for the bad guy?

Sansa and Arya have never really liked each other and that hasn’t changed. Arya has been tracking her sister’s moves and she seems to think Sansa wants the North for herself. And she actually kinda does. There’s also Littlefinger orchestrating a family feud through the shadows so there’s likely going to be a power struggle between the Starks of Winterfell.

6. Littlefinger is PROBABLY going to die this season

All said and done, Arya has never played the fool. We don’t know how or when yet (perhaps the all-seeing Three-Eyed Raven will be her aid) but she will find out about Littlefinger’s play and hopefully end him with her new possession, the Valyrian steel dagger that Bran seemed pretty sneaky about.

7. JON FREAKING TARGARYEN

At the Citadel, Gilly reads out a segment of High Septon Maynard’s records to discover that Prince Rhaegar Targaryen had annulled his marriage with Elia Martell to wed another in Dorne. Obviously, this person could only be Lyanna Stark which means, Jon Snow is actually a true-born son of Rhaegar and Lyanna, making his claim to the Iron Throne stronger than Dany’s. So yeah, technically, it should be Daenerys bending the knee.
