Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus launched its OnePlus 5 smartphone at a global launch event on June 20, 2017. OnePlus 5 is the company’s fifth flagship device and a successor to OnePlus 3T, which the company launched back in November 2016. According to OnePlus, OnePlus 5 is the most advanced smartphone that the company has ever made.

Talking about the design, OnePlus 5 features a 5.5-inch full HD AMOLED 2.5D glass display that is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It sports a metal chassis and an all-metal unibody. Interestingly, OnePlus 5 looks a lot similar to Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

In terms of the technical specifications, OnePlus 5 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 system on chip (SoC) and runs on Oxygen OS which is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The phone is available in two RAM variants– 6GB RAM with 64GB memory and 8GB RAM with 128GB memory. As far as the camera is concerned, OnePlus 5 comes with 20MP + 16MP rear camera and a 16MP front-facing camera.

As far as the specifications are concerned, OnePlus 5 looks like a solid phone that can take care of itself. YouTuber JerryRigEverything put the phone through a series of scratch tests to find out if the phone is as durable as it claims to be. He tried to scratch the fingerprint scanner using a blade and surprisingly the phone sustained no damage at all. Next, he tried scratching the front camera and dual camera of the phone. As expected, the phone came out clean thanks to its Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

As far as the burn test is concerned, the screen did turn white on continuous exposure to the flame. So, you might want to keep your phone away from the fire.

VERDICT: The phone features a solid build quality and offers strong specifications at a significantly reduced cost. The only thing is that you need to keep it away from fire and water.
