There’s no doubt about the fact that most Indian TV shows are quite terrible. There is literally no end to how absurd they can be. From Sasural Simar Ka‘s makkhi incident to the recent cringe-fest that is Pehredaar Piya Ki, there is no scarcity of bad television in this country. How they even have an audience, we will never know! So, picking the worst from a bad lot might be a bit hard. But thanks to Quora, we might finally have an answer to this mystifying query.
One Quora user (God bless their soul) posted an inquiry regarding the worst Indian TV serial and as expected, there was an endless list of replies. As per Quorans, here are some of the worst shows that Indian television has to offer:
1. Sasural Simar Ka
With everything that goes on in the show from Simar turning into a fly, to snake villain, it is no surprise that we were compelled to begin the list with Sasural Simar Ka.
2. Bakula Bua ka Bhoot
Aside from the obvious ghost humour, what people find obnoxious about this show is that it presents Lord Krishna in a bad image.
3. Crime Patrol
As per one Quora user, the increasing number of shows based on sexual harassment and rape in Crime Patrol leaves the impression that women are not safe in this country. Consequently, parents get even more protective of their daughters.
4. Santoshi Maa
There have been several representations of Hindu mythology in popular culture but, apparently, this one deserves special mention mainly for seeming like an “Ekta Kapoor serial” only just with Gods.
5. Nirmal Baba Darbar
If you ever feel like dealing with harsh everyday issues through easy solutions that don’t work, you must take advise from Nirmal Baba. ” There is the infamous Nirmal Baba who tells you that you can solve your problem by not eating the sweet chutney in your samosa,” quotes one Quora user.
6. Savdhaan India
Unlike Crime Patrol, people have a different problem with Savdhaan India. Apparently, the show presents stories about crimes in a “lucrative” manner. “They might be encouraging people to get involved in crimes,” states a Quoran.
7. Saath Nibhana Saathiya
It started off as an annoying show and now it has been taken too far. With too many ridiculous plotlines to fill more episodes, the show is described as “dangerously dramatic”, “irritating” and “intolerable”.
8. Diya Aur Baati Hum
When Diya Aur Baati Hum began, it seemed like an empowering show for women as it talked about a man supporting his wife’s wishes of becoming an IPS officer. Then, the Indian TV curse took over. There was too much of unrealistic drama including international competitions, terrorists, and more!
9. Balika Vadhu
Another example of a show that has been taken too far but, Balika Vadhu is unique. It was adored by many when it first started for talking about social evils. But then it made a U-turn and became a typical saas-bahu serial.
10. Pehredaar Piya Ki
If there is any show that transcends the legacy of crazy Indian TV shows, it has to be Pehredaar Piya Ki. Featuring the marriage of an 18-year-old woman to a 9-year-old boy, the show has faced a lot of backlash. “ It is regressive. It is corny. And it is cringe worthy. It shows and glorifies stalking and child marriage. The producers advertise it as a unique story. Well then let’s get the gist of it,” states one Quoran.
