Internet discusses 7 Bollywood movies which came with high expectations but turned out to be flops

Quorans discussed 'Bollywood's biggest flops of all time which came with high expectations' and revealed interesting trivia about some of these movies. Read on.

The craze for movies is unparalleled in India. And, why do we say that? It is because while cricket does unite the nation, Bollywood stars have a relatively larger fan base than any of the cricketing stars in general. Bollywood produces numerous movies each year and obviously, not all of them turn hits. Some of the big budget Bollywood movies with big Bollywood stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif, Vidya Balan, and in yesteryears, Sridevi, Anil Kapoor have flopped badly at the box office. Even huge multi-starrers have from time to time disappointed the audience.

Quorans discussed ‘Bollywood’s biggest flops of all time which came with high expectations’ and some of them even gave a detailed analysis why some of these films turned out to be disasters and failed to amuse the audience. Some of the analysis actually served as a nice trivia and revealed some interesting facts behind these movies, which many of us never knew.

You’ll be surprised to know how producers heavily invested in some these movies but they later turned out to be the reason for their chest pains. Here are some of the widely discussed movies put up by Quora users:

1. Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja (1993)

Produced by Boney Kapoor and starring Anil Kapoor and Sridevi, the lead pair of the superhit Mr India (1987), the movie turned out to be a dud at the box office.

As one of the Quora users puts it, “Boney Kapoor invested all money he had in the movie which was considered his most ambitious venture. It was indeed a big deal to make a film in Rs. 9 crores at a time when superhit films were made on a budget of few lakhs only.” Someone pointed out that ‘Boney Kapoor invested all his money on this ambitious venture and suffered a colossal loss’.

Another Quoran points out,” …ill dialogues ,weak music and awkward story line didn’t hold it together .”

3. Mangal Pandey: The Rising  (2005)

In an era, when people were obsessed with period films, Mr Perfectionist, Aamir Khan decided to produce and act as Mangal Pandey in the titular movie. But the movie failed to impress his fans.

To quote a Quora user, who puts it in a really funny way, “Mangal Pandey was an eagerly awaited film as Amir spent a lot of hard work and efforts to get into the character. In the end, the film is only remembered for the moustache and hair style of the lead character.”

4. Jaan-E-Mann (2006)

We aren’t sure many remember this one but may be you would because the movie starred Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta as well as Anupam Kher as a dwarf. It was one of the most bizarre movies of its time, with an even more bizarre plotline.

A Quoran says “Salman being the love guru for Akshay, and helping him to get attention of his own ex-wife. The movie was promising till people saw trailers but in box office, the logic of the movie explode and people lost their minds.” We cannot agree more.

5. Salaam-e-Ishq: A tribute to love (2007)

We didn’t even know that the movie had a tag line. The movie had a heavy star-cast with actors like Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Vidya Balan, Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Govinda, John Abraham, Akshaye Khanna, Ayesha Takia…Phew! Although the movie raised the hopes of the movie-goers with its star cast, all of them were dashed and the movie tanked at the box office.

“The movie made on a budget of 35 crores could collect only 30 Crore , garnered negative reviews and declared a disaster in terms of box office” says a Quora user.
