‘Up’ to ‘Life is Beautiful’: 11 Hollywood movies that turned out unexpectedly sad

Everyone needs a decent cry-out once in a while but, with due warning, of course. You need to be wary of these unexpectedly sad Hollywood movies.

Has it ever happened to you that you are watching a seemingly regular, feel-good movie and then, all of a sudden, it takes a really depressing turn? Sure it must have! That’s how filmmakers must get their revenge on us after bad press- by utterly shattering our hearts to bits.

We are not saying that there is anything wrong with a depressing movie… Everyone needs a decent cry-out once in a while. But, at least give us a warning, please? You can’t just make a movie with rainbow posters and jubilant trailers and then, out of nowhere, bam! Someone drops dead or that character who had been struggling to find success in life just ends up being more miserable than ever.

In public interest, here are some unexpectedly sad Hollywood movies that will get you bawling like a baby. Consider yourself warned. These are not the merry movies that they might seem.

1. Dead Poets Society (1989)

If Friends made an entire joke about it (Ref: The One With The Fake Monica), you know it has to be pretty freaking depressing.

2. Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993)

Literally, every struggle seems about 20 times more upsetting when dogs are involved.

3. Lilo & Stitch (2002)

Oh look, that seems like a happy fi-  wait. Never mind!

4. Up (2009)

“Thanks for the adventure. Now go have a new one.” BRB. Crying.

5. The Lion King (1994)

Is dead parents like a Disney patented plot device?

6. Life is Beautiful (1997)

WHO… WHO CALLED THIS A “COMEDY-DRAMA”?!

7. How To Train Your Dragon 2 (2014)

Yes, I’d like a copy of How To Train Your Dragon 2 and a prescription for antidepressants, please…

8. Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)

Is this going to be another coming-of-age drama?
*watches film*
Can’t. Stop. Crying.

9. Interstellar (2014)

“Science fiction”. Riiiiiight.

10. Million Dollar Baby (2004)

Adrenaline pumping sports drama or an emotional loophole making you feel nothing except a stabbing pain? Hmm…

11. Arrival (2016)
