In a surprising incident, Pathanapuram Police in Kerala, took a 13-year-old boy boy into custody on allegation of impregnating a 15-year-old girl. According to reports, the boy was produced before Kollam chief judicial magistrate, who is also the chairman of Juvenile Justice Board in the district.
After the appearance, the magistrate granted bail and sent him with his parents. Recently a similar case was reported in Ernakulam district of Kerala, where a 16-year-old girl gave birth to the child, fathered by a 12-year-old boy.
According to a Times of India report, the cops registered a case after the girl, who completed Class IX, delivered a baby. The girl had complained of stomach pain, however, after she was taken to hospital, the doctor informed her mother that she was fully pregnant.
Though the doctor referred her to a better hospital, the girl gave birth to a child after returning home. It was following this, a police case was registered.
According to the girl’s statement, her teenage neighbour was responsible for her pregnancy. The cops nabbed the boy and during interrogation the boy admitted that he had sex with the girl a few times. Following which, the cops took him into custody and produced him before the Juvenile Justice Board.
At present the case has been registered only against the boy based on the complaint from the girl. Now the cops would seek the opinion of legal experts since the duo were minor.
