Cashing in on the football frenzy in the city, Kolkata police have been coming up with some of the wittiest memes to raise awareness about safe driving through social media. Ever since the 2018 FIFA World Cup began, the page has been buzzing with smart advisories for football lovers.

Here is a compilation of some of the memes, all of them attached with an important message for motorists.

1) Though both Messi and Ronaldo’s teams have been eliminated from this year’s World Cup, Kolkata police drove home a very important message by making memes on them.

On June 30, they tweeted, “No rivalry on the road, Ronaldo and Messi are playing this weekend. The two sports celebs are shown alongside two speeding buses trying to overtake each other.”

2) On June 29, cautioning against the risks of talking on the phone while driving, the Kolkata police came up with another intelligent tweet.

3) On June 27, Messi’s picture-perfect goal against Nigeria on Sunday was the inspiration behind this tweet which asked drivers to adhere to the speed limit as not everyone can be as fast as Messi. The image is a diptych, one side shows Messi wheezing past the Nigerian defender, the other shows a rider being penalised for over-speeding.

“You have to maintain speed limits because not everyone is Messi.”

Though humour seems to be the last thing one can expect from cop, Mumbai police has overcome the stereotype with its hilarious memes and witty one liners
