Apple vs Google emojis leave Internet divided, Sundar Pichai ends debate with perfect response

Recently, a Twitter war broke out over the correct placement of cheese in the cheeseburger emojis for Apple and Google phones

There’s nothing keeping Google and Apple users from engaging in fierce debates and now, the two parties have found a whole new reason to fight over- emojis (We are not even kidding). Apparently, there’s a slight difference between the cheeseburger emojis featured in Apple and Google operating systems and it has resumed the debate on the correct placement of cheese in a cheeseburger. Talk about being OCD, amirite?

As pointed out by author and media analyst Thomas Baekdal, the cheese slice sits over the burger patty in the Apple emoji while the Google emoji places it under the patty. Baekdal posted screenshots of the two emojis on Twitter and insisted on having a serious discussion over the subject. As one would have predicted, cheeseburger loyalists started a riot.

I think we need to have a discussion about how Google’s burger emoji is placing the cheese underneath the burger, while Apple puts it on top pic.twitter.com/PgXmCkY3Yc

The tweet went viral with over 16k retweets and 1.5k replies where people debated the correct order of placement of cheese, patty, tomato and lettuce (not written in any “particular order”, lower your pitchforks).

Obviously, cheese must be on top of meat. But lettuce must be insulated by the tomato – so both are in the wrong.

OMG… Microsoft got it right! But Samsung puts the cheese on top of lettuce???

— Tero Kuittinen (@teroterotero) October 28, 2017

lettuce under meat keeps the bottom bun from getting (as) soggy with meat juice.

but lettuces gets dark when in direct contact with heat. guess the isolation w/ makes more sense here.

Huawei puts (apparently) two lettuce leafs and no cheese. That’s what I see. So I guess Huawei is your burger Thomas! pic.twitter.com/PWBi3CTG6Y

They’re both wrong. Google’s cheese is wrong, Apple’s lettuce is wrong. The correct order, from bottom up, is burger – cheese – toppings pic.twitter.com/lF1AUu64ht

Then there was this cheeseburger rights activist:

That’s an unrealistic standard imposed by media. All burgers are beautiful.

Anyway, the tweet circled across the internet and reached Google CEO Sundar Pichai who took the matter rather seriously. Pichai offered to “drop everything” while he tries to the take the issue up the next day at work. However, there’s just the one problem.

Will drop everything else we are doing and address on Monday:) if folks can agree on the correct way to do this! https://t.co/dXRuZnX1Ag

We still have the correct order of toppings to figure out!!!

And if that wasn’t enough, some people even started a debate on the difference between beer emojis featured in Google and Apple.

Hmmmm, Google, this is not how beer works pic.twitter.com/rLsmThcLKM

Why is that foam floating in the air when the beer mug ain’t even full? What is wrong with you. Google? Can you please fix this? So that we can move on to discussing more serious problems, like how do dogs wear pants or if that shoe is pink and grey or blue and white. ‘Cause, apparently, levitating beer is a hot topic on Twitter RN.

it’s like a japanese bartender’s dream pint. foam that never goes away no matter how much you drink

— Thomas Fuchs (@thomasfuchs) October 29, 2017

CLEARLY, it’s Google’s new carbon sequestration technology.

Drone foam delivery

— Thomas Fuchs (@thomasfuchs) October 29, 2017

Wouldn’t be surprised if Apple has a patent on that too

cc: @sundarpichai add this to your Monday morning agenda
