Arvind Kejriwal asks the all important question: Joota churai ke paise kaise denge?

How are the saalis supposed to give an advance receipt for the 'payment' that is due to them?

Okay, this is serious. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has raised an all-important question. How will the jijas pay their saalis for joota churai ceremony in marriages?

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a demonetisation drive, there is a visible cash crunch. People are standing in long queues just to withdraw Rs 2,500. Even though the government has allowed a relaxation for those who have weddings in their families, and extended their withdrawal limit to Rs 2,50,000, there are a few riders.

Among the various stringent rules to follow before a withdrawal, one of them says that it has to be established that the persons for whom the payment is proposed to be made do not have a bank account. Also, copies of receipts for advance payments will have to be submitted.

That is not it. There is more trouble for you dear sisters in law. Your jijaji will also have to give a detailed list of persons to whom the cash withdrawn is proposed to be paid. You too will have to give a declaration that you do not have a bank account. The list will also have to indicate the purpose for which the proposed payments are being made.

The amounts can be withdrawn only if the date of marriage is on or before December 30, 2016. Withdrawals can be made by either of the parents or the person getting married. But only one of them will be permitted to withdraw the money.

Now how are the saalis supposed to give an advance receipt for the ‘payment’ that is due to them?

So does that mean that the saalis will now get no money for the most important ceremony in the wedding? NO, this can’t be true!
