Most of the world is sick and tired of the ISIS and is doing whatever one can to stop them from spreading further devastation. What one could not imagine however is that BBC would consider broadcasting a sketch named ‘The Real Housewives of ISIS’ as part of their ‘Revolting’ series, as part of their standing up to the terrorist outfit.
No doubt the sketch written by Heydon Prowse and Jolyon Rubinstein classifies as brave comedy and raises a voice against the plight of jihadi brides and sex slaves, brave is all it has to its credit. The sketch trivializes the issue and makes it seem like suicide vests are a joke and even though they are understandably being sarcastic they drive home a very weak point.
The first episode aired on 3rd January and drew considerable amount of criticism. Watch the trailer of the sketch here:
The sketch shows British jihadi brides having conversations about their daily chores and life in general. It was also meant to satirize the ‘Real Housewives of Orange County’ apart from the situation in the state and how ISIS is wreaking havoc.
The writers have defended their work saying that one cannot afford to go after David Cameron for five years and let ISIS go scot-free. There is no denying this, but what the sketch does is it forgets how serious an issue it is dealing with and how sharp their sarcasm would need to be to make a sketch on this as hard-hitting s it needs to be.
With cases like the White Widow to the ISIS’ credit, how strong an influence they are on the western women they choose to take in with them is more than clear, and this sketch seems to be very dismissive of the magnitude of the problem.
