The internet can be a cruel place and Ben Affleck can confirm that.
It has been almost an entire year since sad Affleck went viral — and apparently, Ben is still not over it.
You and I both love memes. We laugh at them, share them and forget all about them but it’s a different story for celebrities. Every now and then, Hollywood celebs find themselves being the butt of all memes.
The year was 2016. March 2016. It was an interview with Yahoo.
Ben and Henry Cavill were asked about the Batman V Superman movie tanking at the box office and getting pretty unflattering reviews. Cavill gave a quick and precise answer while Affleck silently stared into the abyss, and that was where it all started.
The internet creepers got hold of the interview clip, and the video of a sad looking Affleck with ‘The Sound of Silence’ by Simon and Garfunkel went viral (because, internet). A few million views later, the internet was full of ‘Sad Affleck’ memes. The meme became so popular that the 1966 hit ‘The Sound of Silence’ re-entered the Billboard list!
Throughout the video and memes going viral, Ben remained silent and the internet wondered why?
But Ben’s back! He’s finally breaking his silence on the incessant trolls and commenting on the entire internet frenzy that went down. In a recent BBC Radio 1 interview, Ben said that of all the things he learned from working on Batman v Superman, there was one thing that stood above everything else.
“It taught me not to do interviews with Henry Cavill where I don’t say anything, and they can lay Simon & Garfunkel tracks over it,” Ben Affleck said, “That’s one thing I learned.”
