First Black Hole Image Is Here & The Internet Is Ready With Memes

This information may be revolutionary but once it reaches the Internet there's almost nothing that escapes the world of memes

Five years after ‘Interstellar’ gave us an idea of what a black hole would look like from the inside, astronomers probably took it as a challenge to one-up him. Why else would an image of a black hole crop up after five years!? Astronomers have captured the first image of a black hole, triggering a whole lot of gasps as we herald a revolution in trying to understand one of the most enigmatic objects of the universe.

The picture shows a halo of dust and gas that traces the outline of a colossal black hole in the middle of the Messier 87 galaxy, 55 million light years away from the Earth, The Guardian reported.

BBC reported that the size of the black hole is 40 billion km across, which is three million times the size of the Earth and has been described as “a monster” by scientists. As it stands 500 trillion km away, it has been photographed by a network of eight telescopes across the world.

In a historic feat by @EHTelescope & @NSF, a black hole image has been captured for the 1st time. Several of our missions observed the same black hole using different light wavelengths and collected data to understand the black hole’s environment.
