Ever since the murder of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh in her home on Tuesday evening, many voices were raised most of which thundered accusations at political organisations. While some conspiracy theorists placed blame for her death on the opposition, others claim that it was Lankesh’s outspoken attitude that threatened the right-wing, who then sought to eliminate her. Recently, a news organisation took a Twitter poll on if the opposition in the Congress-ruled state of Karnataka would share evidence on Lankesh’s death.
While Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has condemned the incident, deeming it a “dastardly attack by organised criminals”, there are plenty who continue to blame to the State. In light of this, ‘independent’ news organisation Republic, asked in a Twitter poll: “Should the Opposition blaming RSS & BJP share the evidence on #WhoKilled Gauri?”
A screenshot of the Republic’s post was shared by its former employee Sumana Nandy, condemning the actions of Republic. In a Facebook post, the journalist writes, “I have always been proud of the organisations I have worked with in my extremely small career in journalism. But today I am ashamed! An ‘independent’ news organisation is now batting for a rogue government. And openly so.”

A journalist is murdered in cold blood days after receiving death threats from the BJP-RSS cadres. And instead of questioning these murderers, you question the opposition? Where is the integrity? Where are we heading? Some ‘journalists’ are even celebrating the massacre (that she brought it on herself.) Well, yes! This is what happens in Saudi Arabia and North Korea. We are just a few more deaths away from catching up with these countries.
If the fourth pillar sells its soul, where will the society go?
We have failed you, ma’am. All I know, you are probably in a much much better place.
P.S.: For whatever it is worth and whatever significance it has, I have decided to not put Republic TV as one of my employers on my CV and on social media. I regret my association with this rogue organisation.

Nandy is a journalist who has worked with Times Now, same as Arnab Goswami before the latter left the organisation to establish Republic TV. She even alluded to the recent posts of Jagrati Shukla that celebrated the death of Gauri Lankesh.
