Agniswar Chakraborty, the Kolkata guy, who sent shockingly violent rape threats to an unknown girl on Facebook, has now been arrested. Kolkata authorities confirmed the arrest of Chakraborty and also reported that the harasser has confessed to his crime. The police have now seized his mobile phone and initiated criminal proceedings.
On Tuesday, a Facebook post went viral where Chakraborty had issued rape threats to a girl and her younger brother. While the crime in itself is pretty shocking, it was the gory description of rape in the harasser’s comment that was wildly sickening.
Reportedly, the harasser had stalked the girl on Facebook and left a comment on one of her photos to which, she responded with a gratitude. However, she soon deleted the comment which is when the gory rape threats poured in that were also aimed at her 14-year-old brother.
The incident was brought to light by a Facebook page titled Shontu – United against Online Harassment. Kolkata activist Pranaadhika Sinha Devburman, who runs the Facebook page, told InUth that the rape threat came entirely out of the blue as the victim has no prior connection to the harasser.
While the intentions behind the offence are unclear, Devburman clarifies that the man, said to be in his mid-20s, is a “repeat offender” and often likes to harass boys more than girls. Devburman also told InUth that the harasser is known to be inclined to such foul language that he uses in chatrooms on multiplayer gaming websites. The activist claims that they have had as many as fifteen reported cases where victims have come forth with allegations of sexual harassment against him.
