Lipstick Under My Burkha is already the talk of the town, especially after the release of its raunchy trailer last week. This upcoming film by Alankrita Shrivastava which stars, Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Plabita Borthakur, Aahana Kumra and Vikrant Massey, hasn’t managed to keep itself away from controversy. This ‘lady-oriented’ movie featuring ‘audio pornography’ was denied certification, courtesy- Central Board of Film Certification for its bold and “contagious sexual scenes.”
Pumping up for more, the stars of Lipstick Under My Burkha have started a ‘Lipstick Rebellion’ on Instagram, which involves holding a lipstick behind your middle finger while flipping off. This trend is a clever nod to the iconic poster for the film which was released after Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures turned distributor for the movie.
Outlining the lives of four women of different age groups exercising free will, the movie has been screened and appreciated at several international film festivals including the Miami International Film Festival and the Tokyo International Film Festival where it was honoured with the Spirit of Asia Prize. The film is all set for a release on 21 July 2017.
The sassy new trend has focuses on empowering women to join the rebellion against gender barriers and fight against sexism.
