Vogue Arabia has made a path-breaking leap towards the ‘all-inclusive’ fashion industry by choosing Halima Aden as its cover girl for the June edition of the magazine. Within three months of the launch of the Arabian leg of the celebrated magazine, Vogue Arabia has taken a stellar step forward by becoming hijab-inclusive. By putting their first Muslim hijab-wearing model on the cover of the magazine (who also wears braces, for the record), Vogue has finally broken out of its own shell. And speaking of Halima Aden, the 19-year-old Somali-American trailblazer has just hit a milestone in her career as she graces the magazine as a cover girl in her black and white attire and matching hijab and looks absolutely ethereal.
Halina has pioneered a new journey for the fashion industry and continues her winning streak as she looks stunning on the cover of the magazine along with the tagline “All eyes on Halina: The runway star shattering stereotypes”. In the preview video by the magazine, the first hijab-wearing cover girl talks about a diverse representation which is inclusive of all races, gender and types and adds, “Every little girl deserves to see a role model that’s dressed like her, resembles her or even has the same characteristics as her.”

She also expresses her joy in being chosen as the face of this month’s Vogue Arabia cover. “That surreal & dreamlike feeling the moment you see yourself on the cover of @VogueArabia cannot be explained! I’m beyond appreciative for the opportunity to grace the June cover! #covergirl”, Aden wrote on her Instagram post.

And in case you missed it, here’s another first by this young model – braces. Yes! the woman is taking on the world in a hijab and braces. This comes as a big win for the fashion industry and the world when a celebrated magazine such as Vogue thrives to diversify the fashion culture.
In you think, this isn’t that big a deal, do check out the covers from previous months and you’ll realise that this is indeed a huge step by Vogue Arabia. Especially since the last time they tried to have a cover girl with a veil on her head – they unwittingly chose Gigi Hadid. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
