A Mumbai artist has created a huge mosaic art of the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, to pay him tribute before his birthday. Abaasaheb Shewale along with his five co-artists has installed a mosaic art made of clay lamps measuring 9.5 by 14 ft at a mall in Mumbai.
“Virat Kohli is shining like a bright light at the moment and with the Diwali approaching, I thought this would be an apt way to pay tribute,” curator and artist Abaasaheb Shewale told The Indian Express.
Incidentally, Virat’s birthday is on November 5, two days before Diwali. The 31-year-old artist felt it a perfect time to do this.
Shewale who specialises in push-pin mosaic artwork and pencil sketch used 4482 diyas to create this masterpiece. He also took help from other five artists — Suraj Gole, Kumar Hadawale, Rupesh Tandel, Snehal Shewale and Tanuja Shewale who helped him in assembling the lamps in less than eight hours.
The cricket buff spent around Rs 10000 for the project which was all self-financed. The mosaic art is up for display Seawoods Grand Central, a mall in Navi Mumbai. While speaking about the location he said that he sent out proposals to many malls, and “it was Seawoods who responded first to my proposal, so, we went ahead to make the portrait there.”
Shewale claims that it is ‘world’s largest diya mosaic art’ and he has notified Guinness Book of World Records and is now waiting for an official confirmation.
The artwork is opened for public till November 10.
