Pehredaar Piya Ki has been a controversy for a long time now. Set in Rajasthan, this Indian soap opera outlines the lives Afaan Khan’s Ratan Singh, a 10-year-old boy who fancies a grown-ass woman, and of Diya Ratan Singh, said grown-ass woman who is played by Tejaswi Prakash Wayangankar. While the idea behind this show itself is as cringe-worthy as can be but, the show has left no stone unturned with their “unconventional love story.”
So apparently, our male lead, the kid, is does not only have unhealthy desires, he also has no respect for someone’s personal space. In the first episode of the show, all “Ratan sa” does is chase after his totes unhealthy crush, Diya, and clicking photos from behind bushes and fences. Seriously, the only thing age-appropriate about this kid is his childish, orange-coloured Polaroid camera that surprisingly does not produce photos every time we hear that generic click-sound from the show’s sound director’s database.
If you think that was bad then get a load of this… After Diya is done babbling about her dream wedding and what her husband would be like, she freaks out at the sight of… not the kid who has been following her around everywhere and clicking photos but, a freaking cockroach!
But, oh no! Now, she’s falling and… Is she gonna get hurt? Nu-uh! Not with her ‘Sapno ka Rajkumar’ around who’s there to back her up, literally! How original, right? Their eyes meet in slo-mo and music fills the scene. After Ratan bravely gets rid of the cockroach, Diya is quite impressed. So much so that even when she discovers the photos he had clicked, she does not mind at all. “Aap hume meethi lagi,” says Ratan in his explanation.
Here’s a link to the episode in case you haven’t already seen it. What’s even more shocking is that there are people who looooove the show. We ain’t even joking!

Thankfully, not everyone agrees with the concept. At least there is still some hope in this world.
FYI THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH A GUY MARRYING AN ELDER WOMAN! #PehredaarPiyaKi is Unacceptable cuz the guy is NINE, but in GENERAL, ITS OK!

@SonyTV #PehredaarPiyaKi the concept give me jitters. 9YO romancing a girl double his age, & mind it that too with pride. Yuck! Horrible.
