A shocking incident came to light when Uma Mageswari, an Indian resident residing in Singapore, exposed a middle-aged man named Suraj, who was discreetly filming her while travelling in the metro. Uma took to Facebook on May 15, to inform everyone about the incident and asked people to be wary of such situations. In her post, Uma describes that she was heading towards Harbourfront to visit a friend using the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) metro in Singapore when a man took the liberty of filming her in the metro. She got to know it only when she noticed the reflection of the mobile on the Metro window shield.
In her post, Uma describes that she was commuting from the station Outram MRT on the evening of May 13, a man briskly walked towards her and took the seat facing her, even when the metro car wasn’t crowded at all. Normally this wouldn’t have been a cause for concern. The next thing he did would creep you out. He took out his phone and started filming her. Thanks to this pervert’s intellect, the mobile screen was reflecting on the metro window and one could easily figure out what he what trying to do. He held up his phone casually so as to not draw attention towards himself and continued filming with a nonchalant air about him until he zoomed into Uma’s body parts. Uma, in turn, began recording his act of perversion.
You can watch the video here:
When she confronted him he tried hard to cover this gruesome act by saying that she was like his sister. Uma wasn’t convinced with the justification and so she didn’t stop there. She reported the issue to the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) staff. She thanked the staff who she says were supportive and took action immediately by calling the Singapore Police Force (SPF).
On further investigation, the police found more videos in his phone which were rather explicit in nature. For all such perverts out there, trying to commit such lewd acts, take a hint from this. If you are watching us we are watching you too. Well, the man got what he deserves but sadly the story does not end here. While many came in support of Uma and her bravery, there were a few who criticised and blame her for her dressing sense: “Bet she has a mini skirt and half b**bs out,” a Facebook user commented. Guess, the world isn’t growing up anytime soon.
This is a video that I had recorded on 13th May 2017 Saturday at 7.40pm a minute or so after I had boarded the train at Outram mrt. I was heading towards Harbourfront to meet a friend. This guy quickly plonked himself on the seat opposite mine though it wasn’t as if the train was crowded and he had to race to get a seat. I was seated in the 2-seater located at the far ends of the carriage. He then proceeded to whip out his phone and I think the rest speaks for itself once you view the video.
The dumbass didn’t realise his folly obviously. I made my own recording of him but understandably lost my temper afterwards when confronting him over his actions. The mrt staff were most helpful and the SPF arrived at the scene within minutes. Upon further investigation this chap was found to be in possession of similar videos though I am told they were rather obscene in nature of unsuspecting victims.
This man’s name is Suraj. This asshole holds an employment pass. He had a range of excuses for his deplorable actions. His last feeble attempt of an apology was that ‘I was like his sister’.
I am highlighting this episode to the public in general to serve as a deterrent for other such assholes. Please always remain aware of your surroundings and never be afraid to speak out against such acts that may be committed against you or others around you.
You don’t have to be a victim of your circumstances. Ever.
