High school senior from Brentwood, Tennessee, Carolina Williams was accepted to one of the most prestigious Ivy League schools in the US after penning a 200-word essay about.. wait for it.. eating Papa John’s Pizza. Yes, this unconventional essay apparently managed to get accepted at Yale University. In response to the university’s mandatory 200-word essay question about what the applicant loves to do, Carolina wrote about ordering Papa John’s pizza and explained why is it a major part of her life. Though Williams’ essay celebrated her love for pizza, it also resonated her personality and touched the strings of deeper things like independence and comfort. In her essay, she wrote:
“Accepting those warm cardboard boxes at my front door is second nature to me, but I will always love ordering pizza because of the way eight slices of something so ordinary are able to evoke feelings of independence, consolidation, and joy.”
Not only that, the selection committee at Yale loved her essay so much that she received notes from them a few weeks later.
“As a fellow lover of pizza, I laughed out loud (then ordered pizza) after reading your application,” read one note to Carolina from Yale’s admissions team. Another added, “I laughed so hard on your pizza essay. I kept thinking that you are the kind of person that I would love to be best friends with.”
She also took to Twitter to announce her acceptance to Yale’s University and also tagged the official account of Papa John’s pizza.
I just want @PapaJohns to know that I wrote a college essay about how much I love to order their pizza and it got me into Yale pic.twitter.com/lDlzEErHCn

Despite all the silver lining, Williams has decided not to join Yale and plans to join Auburn University in the fall. Her decision came in respect, with better scholarship opportunities at Auburn and close distance to her home.
Brainy child, isn’t she?
