The good, the terrible, the ugly: 10 tweets on SC's verdict on sex with 'minor wives'

Supreme Court announces landmark verdict and Twitter can't seem to decide to troll or to support. Read on to find out what they are saying

When the Supreme Court decided to put an end to minor wives being forced to have sex without consent with their husband, it also opened up a box of undesirables on social media. We already lived in the dichotomy where the age of consent was considered 18 years by the law but on the other hand our Constitution allowed exception clause (2) under Section 375 IPC (which deals with rape) that says intercourse or sexual act by a man with his wife, not below 15 years, is not rape. This verdict is trying bridge the gap of disparity within the law which allows a husband to have sexual relations with his 15-year-old wife. It is also helpful in giving clarity in defining the term ‘child’ in recent laws such as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, which includes any person below the age of 18. Add to that the fact that child marriages are still a thing in the land where it was declared illegal and is a punishable offence, though a social reality especially in rural parts of the country.

Here are five terrible tweets after the verdict which will make your head spin:

#1 This one thought a joke is the way to go

#2 This one person who thought SC had no business tell them what to do

#3 This one person had the solution to child marriage

#4 And this one guy who had a very interesting query for the SC

#5 Someone went into the history of bal vivah or child marriage

While others focused on logic to look at the verdict objectively:

#1 This person who compared minors having sex to minors having a driving license:

#2 When someone debunked the whole idea of child marriage

#3 And did Supreme Court sidestep one loophole in the plot

#4 Someone further clarified the catch behind the verdict

#5 And this comparison, even though it was unclear at first, might show signs of logic:
