When Indian-American from Ohio, Ankita Mishra, visited a pub in New York’s Bushwick to spend some fun time with her friends, she was in for a surprise. Images of Hindu gods on the wall of the bathroom.
Ankita and her friends went to the pub called ‘House of Yes’ which describes itself as “Weird. Wild. Wonderful. A performance fueled nightclub and creative venue programmed with eclectic events and fabulous dance parties.” She was having a good time till she went to use the washroom. To her surprise, she saw images of Hindu gods like Ganesha, Saraswati, Kali and Shiva on the wall.
In a blog post, Ankita wrote, “…last month, during a night out with friends, I could not stay quiet when I suddenly found myself in a curiously-decorated VIP bathroom inside House of Yes in Bushwick, NY. The walls were papered with bejewelled images of Hindu gods like Ganesha, Saraswati, Kali, and Shiva.”
Soon after coming back, Mishra wrote an email speaking her heart out.
Usually, pub/restaurant owners don’t respond or try to clarify things keeping their point. However, this time things were really different. She heard back from the pub in an apologetic email.
Ankita in her blog post further wrote, “I had broken my silence and spoken up. Kae’s response was everything I had convinced myself was impossible: an apology. And yet why did I fear her apology so much? Is it because some hurting goes so deep, genuine remorse cannot erase it?”
Well, social media is quite happy with step Mishra has taken and also the response she received.
Thank you #Ankita, for being outspoken. You are amazing! I watched the clip and yes of course, the correspondence is outstanding. #Awesome
Thanks #Kae for your understanding.
