A Twitter thread has gone viral on social media, in which a woman has stated how her 19-year-old cousin sister was molested multiple times aboard Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses on route 544.
The Delhi University (DU) student had to jump out of a moving bus after being allegedly harassed by a man on the bus. Twitter user Shivani Gairola tweeted details about the kind of harassment her cousin had to face while going to the college.
Shivani Gairola’s cousin has been staying in Delhi for the past three months and she has been molested at least seven times inside the bus.

My 19-year-old cousin sister has been living in Delhi for 3 months, and she has been molested 7 times. If you think it doesn’t get worse, you don’t know Delhi.

She told me of this breed of molesters who travel on route 544 plying from South Ex specifically because that bus carries young girls on their way to college – Kamala Nehru and Gargi. Who regularly and repeatedly do things that makes her eyes sting with tears to even repeat.

She raised an alarm and threw out a guy one time, and he was on the bus again, the very next day. These are not coincidences or one-off incidents. These are sickening individuals who travel on that bus with the sole purpose of harassing young girls trying to get an education.

Harass them to the point that my little sister dashed out of the bus and into incoming traffic than bear any more of it. She lived to tell the tale, but are we waiting for a day when some little girl doesn’t?

In her Twitter thread, she even requested CM Arvind Kejriwal, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, and the Delhi Police to take immediate action.
@ArvindKejriwal @kgahlot @nitin_gadkari @Manekagandhibjp
Make Route 544 a Ladies route for college girls or if you can’t do that, make it mandatory for that bus to have a uniformed police officer.— Shivani Gairola (@misslolno) September 29, 2018
#WhyIDidntReport , you ask?
This is me, reporting it. Now, it’s on you to do something about it.— Shivani Gairola (@misslolno) September 29, 2018
Following the messages on social media, DCP (south Delhi) Vijay Kumar tweeted and asked for more details to take action.

The thread soon went viral as netizens started retweeting it and sharing their own story.
I lived in Delhi 5 years, Jan.1971 to Jan.1976. Whenever I had to travel by morning bus half filled with school going kids of 8 to 12 years, the journey used to be embarrassing for me due to vulger lewd remarks by those kids towards female passengers.

All the the time I got groped… Happened during bus travel only. Have heard about the 544 specially…. heard its worst.
Preferred Rick or Walk from metro, mine was north campus, though.

Self Defence: While Authorities deal, You / We can take a quick Snap of the Perpetrator in action [committing crime] and share on Social Media so that it reaches their Family Friends – Social Humiliation – when family & people where they live know, it starts to get them
