Reduction in fuel prices on Wednesday filled us all with a glimmer of hope, as the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) website announced that the prices had been slashed up to 60 paise. This is the first time that the fuel prices had gone down after a 16-day hike that triggered protests all over the country.
Hours after the declaration was made, the government rescinded the announcement saying that the reduction was only for 1 paise and not 60 p. “The reduction was supposed to be 1 paisa but due to a clerical error the price prevalent on May 25 was communicated as today’s price,” PTI quoted an official of an oil company.
The government probably couldn’t handle our excitement over the 60 p reduction and decided to go “haha, fooled ya” on us. But, the Twitterati would not let this mean joke slide so easily. Most of them poked fun at the government or the oil companies for deciding to do everyone a favour with this generosity.
Making future plans be like
