Muslim woman kicked out of a bank for wearing a hijab, watch video here

In another shocking example of Islamophobia, Jamela Mohamed, a Muslim woman, was singled out for wearing a hijab and asked to leave the premises of a bank. Jamela went to a branch of Sound Credit Union in Washington to make a car payment on a Friday morning. The Muslim woman went in wearing the hood of her sweater up because it was a Friday, which is when Muslims observe Jummah. She recorded a video of the alleged discrimination when Jamela was repeatedly asked to remove her hijab. She can be seen waiting at a cashier desk where a sign says hats, hoods and sunglasses are not allowed.

She recorded a video of the alleged discrimination when Jamela was repeatedly asked to remove her hijab. She can be seen waiting at a cashier desk where a sign says hats, hoods and sunglasses are not allowed.

On the request of the cashier, Jamela went out and replace the hoodie with a hijab in order to cover her head. But the cashier’s reaction only worsened as she began threatening to call the police unless Jamela removed any form of the hood from her head. The branch supervisor said that she would count till three before she will call 911 if Jamela didn’t remove her hijab.

Jamela can be heard in the video, saying, “So they said please remove hats and hoods” before she pans the video to show a few other male customers who are donning baseball caps without any problems to any members of the branch.

The video then cuts to Jamela who is sitting in her car crying as she says: ‘I feel so embarrassed right now’. The video has been circulating on various social with Jamela’s message loud and clear: ‘I never want this to happen to anybody and NOBODY should ever be treated this way. Thank you.’

A spokesperson for Sound Credit Union said in a statement, “We have been reviewing a video that was posted to social media that documents an interaction that occurred at the Kent Branch on May 5, 2017.”
