Google is killing instant search and we are heartbroken

Google is killing off one of the fundamental features of its search engine-- Google Instant Search. The company had first introduced the feature in 2010. Check out the details inside

Google is making big changes to its search engine. The tech behemoth is killing one of the most fundamental features of search– Google Instant Search. For those of you who are not aware of the workings of this dynamic feature, instant search provided instantaneous search results to the users while they were typing in their queries. While most of us never really used the feature, nonetheless it was a revolutionary thing when it was launched back in 2010.

However, the company has decided to pull the plug on this feature after an analysis showed that majority of the search had migrated to mobile devices, where the feature doesn’t work. A Google spokesperson in a statement explained that the feature was being removed to improve search results on its platforms.

We launched Google Instant back in 2010 with the goal to provide users with the information they need as quickly as possible, even as they typed their searches on desktop devices. Since then, many more of our searches happen on mobile, with very different input and interaction and screen constraints. With this in mind, we have decided to remove Google Instant, so we can focus on ways to make Search even faster and more fluid on all devices,” the Google spokesperson said.
