Good news folks! Starting today commuters in Kolkata will be able to see real-time bus transit information on Google Maps. The tech giant has teamed up with the West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) to add real-time bus transit information to Google Maps, making it easier for the commuters to plan their trips.
“By sharing the real-time transit information of our buses with Google Maps, we are striving to deliver an enhanced level of service for our commuters. We expect this to help increase the footfall in our buses and improve revenue realisation,” WBTC Managing Director Narayan Swaroop Nigam said in a statement.
However, there’s a catch. The bus transit information is currently available only for the WBTC transit routes only. The company soon plans to add other routes to the newly added feature. The new feature is available on both Android and iOS apps of the Google Maps.
What all information will be displayed?
The new feature will give users information like– bus routes, transit time, bus stops on a route and when will the next bus be arriving at the nearest bus stop.
So, how do use the new feature?
The new feature is really simple to use. All you need to do is follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Open Google Maps on your smartphone
Step 2: Select your location and add your destination
Step 3: Tap ‘Get Directions’
Step 4: Tap ‘Transit’ icon to view the information. You will see the real-time bus transit information highlighted in green.
