Google Maps is the mainstay of navigation for most people these days. It not only guides the users through unknown pathways but also helps them to locate important places like restaurants and petrol stations. But, the app occasionally left the people in confused owing to the fact that it highlighted every spot on the map with equal significance.
But, that is about to change as Google is giving Google Maps a much-needed makeover. Take a peek:
Google Maps synced with Calendar and Gmail:
For starters, Google is syncing Maps with Calendar and Gmail apps. This will allow not only Maps to show the events taking place in your neighbourhood but also those scheduled in your Calendar.
“As roads close, businesses open, or local events happen in your neighbourhood, you’ll see it on Google Maps. When you schedule an event using Google Calendar, get a reservation confirmation in Gmail, or add a restaurant to your “Want to Go” list, Google Maps reflects that too,” Google wrote in a blog post.

Highlighting relevant search results:
But that’s not the only thing that has changed. Google has also updated the app to highlight ‘most relevant’ to each search. “We’ve updated the driving, navigation, transit and explore maps to better highlight the information most relevant to each experience,” Google added.
Colour-coding:
Apart from this, Google has added colour-coding to highlight each location type making it easier for the users to search for their desired information on the app. Here’s how the colour-coding works:

Google will be rolling out these updates to Google Maps, Google Earth, Android Auto, Google Search and Google Assistant in the coming weeks and the update will be available on both desktop and smartphone platforms. While the update does seem interesting, it remains to be seen how much difference will this feature make in real time.
