Google to unveil major revamp to Google Earth on April 18

Google Earth is getting a makeover, here's what you should know

The date has been locked, invites sent and the stage has been set for the event in which tech titan Google will unveil the revamped version of Google Earth, the virtual globe that uses satellite imagery, aerial photography and geographic information to map the Earth.

Google has started sending out invites for its April 18 event which will be held at New York’s Whitney Museum of Art at 8:30 am local time (6 pm IST). According to an invite shared by Engadget, the company has kept the details about its upcoming events under wraps. The invite just mentions the ‘new Google Earth’ would offer a ‘brand new experience’.

Interestingly, the date of the event lies just ahead of the Earth Day which will be celebrated on April 22.

Back in November last year, Google had launched the virtual reality (VR) version of Google Earth with support for HTC Vive. At the time of the launch, the company had announced that it would expand the support to other platforms gradually.

Now, it is being speculated that Google might expand the support of Google Earth VR to Daydream VR headsets too. Doing so would help the company to reach a wider audience. But for all we know, the could introduce new features to the app instead of extending support to other VR gears. Since Google is being tight-lipped about the event, we can only guess about the big release that Google has planned for us!
