Apple’s anniversary edition smartphone iPhone 8 (oh! wait was it iPhone X or iPhone Edition?) has been in vogue ever since the company launched iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in September last year. The rumours about the features and specifications of the upcoming smartphone have kept the tech enthusiasts all over the world busy. From design leaks to the confusion over the technical specifications, contradictory reports have created a dilemma in the minds of the Apple enthusiasts such that no one knows what to believe anymore (if it’s any consolation, we are equally bewildered).
But worry not dear friends as we have achieved some clarity on the features that iPhone 8 will sport after stalking the rumours for months. Here’s what we know so far:
Integration with Apple HomePod
Apple launched its Siri-based smart-speaker Homepod at WWDC 2017 earlier this month. The goofy-looking speaker is backed by Apple Music and it can also be used to control all your smart-home devices. Apple iPhone 8 is likely to feature support for HomePod. Though we will know the details for sure only at the time of the launch.

iPhone 8 will run on iOS 11
Apple unveiled its brand new mobile operating system– iOS 11 at WWDC 2017 earlier this month. It sports many interesting features like a rejigged dock, convenient multi-tasking feature, transferring money from the Message app and better camera option. The OS is coming to the App Store this fall. While Apple’s older devices including iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone SE will be getting the update, iPhone 8 will most likely feature the updated OS too.

Smarter Siri
Among the many things that Apple announced at WWDC 2017, one of the most interesting updates was a smarter virtual assistant ‘Siri’. Reports suggest that iPhone 8 will feature a smarter and a more intuitive Siri that would not only learn from your previous choices to give you better search results but also respond to your search query in different languages (isn’t that amazing!).

Glass Design
The design of iPhone 8 has been a major topic of debate ever since the rumours began. From a bezel-less design to minimum bezels on the top and bottom part of the phone, the muddle seems to have no end. But thankfully for us, there is some consensus about the phone sporting an all-glass design. Another report suggests that iPhone 8 could feature AMOLED display which will make the screen appear brighter and sharper. Korean electronic giant Samsung has already been using AMOLED screens in its smartphones and the word is that Samsung could be manufacturing bendable OLED panels for Apple.

The ‘Home Screen’ button
Bezel or no bezel there is one thing that we know– iPhone 8 won’t feature a separate home screen button like all its predecessors have. This means that the home screen button could be embedded in the screen. As far as the fingerprint scanner is concerned, there’s still some confusion there as we are still not sure if the phone will sport the fingerprint scanner at the back of the phone (like Xiaomi smartphone) or if it will be integrated within the home screen.

Dual camera
Admittedly, there has been some confusion about the placement of the camera on the rear side of the phone. Whether the camera will be placed vertically on the left side of the phone or horizontally on top of the Apple logo remains a mystery. But all the rumours so far have been consistent about dual-camera on the back of iPhone 8. So are we looking at a stronger and a smarter camera in iPhone 8? Yes!

Wireless charging
Last but not the least, Apple’s iPhone will feature wireless charging technology. iPhone 8 will have an advanced waterproofing system and will allow users to charge it without plugging it in a device. The report comes from Wistron chief executive Robert Hwang, who at an annual shareholders meeting last week said that though the feature needs some testing at this point, the feature is likely to make to the finish line.
